How the 10K pacing calculator works
This 10K pacing calculator starts with your target finish time or pace, then lays out each kilometre and each mile so you can see the effort required throughout the race.
A 10K is exactly 10 kilometres, or 6.2137119 miles. The chart keeps arithmetic in whole seconds for practical race planning, while the final 0.2137 mile completes the exact distance.
Choose an even split for a steady effort, a negative split to start about 1.5% slower, or a positive split to show the reverse pattern neutrally.
pace per km = total seconds ÷ 10; pace per mile = total seconds ÷ 6.2137119 Reference marks: sub-40:00 is 4:00/km (6:26/mile), sub-45:00 is 4:30/km (7:14/mile), sub-50:00 is 5:00/km (8:03/mile), and sub-60:00 is 6:00/km (9:39/mile).
10K pacing calculator FAQ
Should I use a finish time or a pace?
Use finish time when you have a race goal. Use pace when your training plan gives you a per-kilometre or per-mile target.
What is a negative split?
This chart makes the first half about 1.5% slower and the second half faster, while preserving the overall target time.
Why is there a final 0.2137-mile row?
A 10K is 6.2137119 miles, so that row covers the distance after the sixth full mile.
Are the displayed splits rounded?
Yes. The chart displays whole seconds, and the final split absorbs rounding so the cumulative total remains your target.
Are my targets saved?
No. The calculation runs in your browser and this tool does not save the values you enter.
