How to use this half marathon pacing chart

A half marathon pacing chart turns a target finish time into checkpoints you can follow on race day. Enter a finish time or a target pace, then choose even pacing, a negative split or a positive split.

The chart uses the exact half marathon distance of 21.0975 km (13.109375 miles). It lists cumulative elapsed time at every 5 km mark and every full mile, including the final 0.109375 mile.

Pace per km = target finish time ÷ 21.0975; pace per mile = target finish time ÷ 13.109375

Negative and positive split options are planning models: the first half is adjusted by about 1.5% and the second half is adjusted in the opposite direction. Actual conditions and course layout can change your pacing.

Half marathon pacing chart FAQ

What pace do I need for a 2-hour half marathon?

A 2-hour half marathon requires about 5:41 per km or 9:09 per mile. The chart gives cumulative checkpoints for that target.

Should I choose an even or negative split?

Even pacing keeps the same average pace throughout. A negative split starts slightly slower and finishes faster; it is a planning option, not a guarantee.

Why are the mile and kilometre times different?

They use the exact conversions for a half marathon: 21.0975 km and 13.109375 miles, with 1 mile equal to 1.609344 km.

Does this tool save my target time?

No. The calculation runs in your browser and this tool does not require an account or a network connection.

Can I print the pacing chart?

Yes. Use your browser's print command; the chart is formatted as pace bands with the input controls removed.
